Hi Guys
Thought you might like a brief review of the new Datafile from SAM Publications that I picked up from the office today.
This title follows the normal format for SAM datafiles and covers the Bf 109 F to K, when this title was originally announced it was listed as 192 pages but this has now increased to 224. Lynn Ritger has down a superb job and even the historical section is interesting read, something I normally find terminally boring. We start with 100 pages of historical information, which includes a large section on foreign users.
The chapters are as follows
1.The Design of 109E to K
2.Channel Front 109 Operations Oct 40 to Aug 42
3.African Stars Feb41 to May 45
4.One steppe Russia Jun 41 to May 45
5. Boar War 109 Night fighters
6.Defence and Defeat
7. Training Operations
Now there is a gap for the colour section 7 pages of colour profiles, 6 pages from all angles of the DB605A and 605D engine and 22 period colour photographs.
The historical section ends with Chapter 8 30 pages on foreign users This covers 109 operations Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Captured aircraft.
We now move on to the sections most useful for the modeller
Chapter 9 and 10 supply factory drawings and details of the armament packages.
The next 4 chapters supplies colour walk around of four preserved examples.
1.109 F-4 NAM Canada
2. 109 G-4 Technik Museum Speyer German.
3. 109 G-6 NASM Washington
4. 109 G-10 Warbird Collection GB
Now we move on to a section called modelling the 109 which features 27 models in all the major scales from 1/144 to 1/24 from Sweet, Hasegawa, Trumpeter, 21st Century Toys, Pro Modeller, Fujimi, Hobbycraft, Amt Ertl, Airfix, Heller, Revell, Hobbycraft, Fine Molds. Italeri, and Accurate Miniatures. These kits are built in review format and include details on how to improve the model kit.
Almost at the end we have the appendices
1.Kit Listing
2 Accessories
3. Decals
4 109 Survivors
5 109 Airframes and productions
6 Bibliographies
Finally there is a complete set of plans by Jacek Jackiewicz.
There has been a long wait for this title but If you like the 109 I think this is a must have book as a one stop source on the later marks especially if you already have part one.
I hope you found this helpful and if you have any questions ask away.
