Hi All

I am about to paint my Revell Rafale B model and I am adding some small parts. Want to do the Tiger meet machine

http://airliners.net/: Rafale Tiger

Now the tricky part. I have already added the chaff/flare indents at the tail and now I have a problem with the nose mounted clear parts (Revell 78/79).

The part 79 does not match this picture (right in the pic, beside the ball shaped thingie): http://airliners.net/open.file/1123825/L/

Now my question: is the optic just "folded" back or has this part changed since the kit was designed?

more pictures of this device would be helpful, in case I have to reshape the kit part....

Many thanks in advance

best wishes

Steffen

Addendum

This is how it looks on the model:

As nobody could (or wanted to) help me, I just proceeded with the model.

Here are 2 pix, more to follow when I have better lighting.

again many small errors and mistakes on the model, still: comments welcome!

best wishes

Nice and clean model, I wish I could produce paintjobs as clean as yours! It seems no matter what I do dust always gets stuck on my wet paint.

The canopy is nice and clear, and mates with the fuselage well. Do you have any close up shots of the interior?

Hello Michael

many thanks for your kind comment. I will add some more pictures on the weekend.

I did not change the pit, everything here is as it comes from the box ---- you cannot see much of it. I added the chaff and flare indents at the tail, reshaped the MICA missiles to match the pictures of the real a/c. Also the nose sensor (folded back) and the tanks (welds) were altered. I did not change the wing tip missile pylon, which looks a little different on the pictures from airliners.net.

The Model Alliance decals do not really fit the model (tail motives) and the Revell stencil decals are more crisp, while some of the stencils have the wrong shape or size compared to the pictures (on both sheets). The model was painted with MM dark ghost grey --- for the different shade on the radome and some details I added a little black. the canopy was dipped in Klear. unfortunately I trapped some dust insed ... doh also I have a small cut in the window, that I just tried to cover with Klear and the windscreen has a slight "smear" inside (do not know what that is.

.. as I wrote .. more to follow during the weekend (no time to take good photos today)

best wishes

Steffen

Hallo Steffen!

Wir haben seit langem miteinander nicht geredet...

Sorry but I couldn't help you out with the Rafale. Despite the fact that I'm French I'm not a specialist of modern jets... even French ones. Everything which isn't within a 1930/1950 timeframe isn't my cup of tea.

Having said that I must say your Rafale looks very good! I couldn't have done better.

It's nice to see a French jet built by a German modeler. I'm looking forward to see your Mirage 2000 with the R-Flight detail set!

excellent built!!!

I have the Rafale (in marine version) on my wishlist as well. Are there specific difficulties with the kit?

About the accuracy of the model compared to the real thing. Don't forget that these modern things are undergoing constant upgrading and modification programs. That makes that details like antennas or sensors appear or disappear sometimes.

Hi Jean-Luc and drabslab

many thanks for your forgiving comments (well, the pix are not too good ... more and hopefully better photos tomorrow)

Dito here, especially from the historical/technical background. This is just a fun build and to answer drabslabs question, I am sorry, I have no idea about many shortcommings of the kit. As I wrote the chaff/flare dispensers are missing (have to be added, either with the set from Skyraider Models or from scratch), the wing tip pylons look a bit different in pix and also the left (seen from the pit) sensor as mentioned above.

I have read somewhere the model is about 1/47 rather than 1/48 .. but I do not know if it is true and I do not care ... it looks nice to my eye. I also did not care about the hole behind the intakes .. there is no tunnel, but just the empty model. I boxed off the APU exhaust with paper to keep the light out.

believe me, you could/can!

Yeah, but first I have to find a kit ... today we had our monthly IPMS meeting and I had a look for the Heller Mirage .. I could not find one (only an expensive Airfix two seater and an Esci kit) ... also I will try to buy the cockpit set from Etienne (which is not on the RFlight site, but on the list that was in the delivery)

best wishes

I think you did a great job.

You should be very proud of your Tiger Meet finish. Thanks for posting.
