Which Academy Black Hawk would be approriate for a heli in Somolia? also, what modifications (if any ?) should I make to the stock kit?

In 1/35 scale the best choice will be DAP kit (Academy call it AH-60L DAP)

The DAP was actually created by guys who were in the actual battle. It was designed by Clifton Wolcott and Michael Durant. The DAP is probably your best option. The unit was 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Hope everthing works out well for you.
