Hi,
Just a quick little question this time.
How were French P-47's painted?

I'm currently building a Revell Thunderbolt and as you know, the paint instructions are kinda weak, only revell paint numbers. The painting guide say 76 for the underside and 39 for the upper.
Is this referring to a neutral grey/olive drab scheme or something else, possibly done by the French?

Hi Eetu!
Browsing through the Wings Palate examples it looks like a standard Olive Drab and Neutral grey scheme. Tamiya colours are XF-62 and XF-53.
Looking forward to seeing your P47 soon!

Thanks.
I'll check my paints if I have those already. If not, I'll do a trip to an LHS to buy some.

Eetu,

Depending on what version of the P 47 you are doing, if the aircraft was factory painted in the USAAC scheme of Olive Drab over Neutral Grey.
Or later supplied in BM they were usually repainted in French manufactured paint, of Khaki over Light Blue, all of these colours are available in the Testors Model Master range of enamels / acrylics.

Thanks for the additional info.
This seems to be the earlier US-painted aircraft, since the instructions' say dark green number 39 and the aircraft's from 1944.
