Hi all:

IŽm building this Academy P 51b in 1/72 scale.
It will be from the 52nd FG, 15th AF in Italy 1944. Here is a pic of the original AC:

The interesting thing of this one is that this P 51B has the dorsal fillet like the P 51D.
Nose and spinner are in red, tail and wing tips yellow with black trim, overall NMF, numerals and codes in black.
The assembly is finished, primer applied. Next step: begin the paintwork.
Coments and critics will be appreciated.

Looking very good Carlos.
You certainly seem to put these Academy kits together at some speed!
Im looking forward to seeing this painted up,as the combination or red, yellow and a NMF should look fabulous!

Carlos,

Excellent workmanship on your P 51b progress so far, I have seen this same subject done in 48 scale, with the Tamiya kit, where AS 12 was used for the BMF.

Look forward to seeing more on this one.

Fin fillets were not so unusual. They were fitted both at the factory or retro-fitted to aircraft later. They are more common on the P-51C.

SAM publications http://www.sampublications.com/sampubs.htm
sell a resin fillet with two 1000lb GP bombs for the Revell Mustang III 1/72 kit. A company called Loon make a complete resin replacement fuselage with a fin fillet for the Tamiya 1/48 P-51B/Mustang III kit. Expensive but very high quality.

Hi Guys:

Thanks all for the coments. Yesterday night I made some progress. Overall NMF is applied (Aluminium Buffing Met - Model Master). If I have time, tonight IŽll continue with the paint job. First IŽll mask the NMF on the aft fuselage near the tail and on the wingtips to apply black paint. Then when dried IŽll mask the black (trims) and paint the yellow. Then the Olive drab anti glare panel and after all this painting the red nose and spinner. Lot of airbrush washing !
I hope everything works ok.
IŽll post more pics when done.

Hi all:

After some time this one was sleeping in the bench I decided to finish it as soon as I can.
IŽll be posting pics of the progress this weekend.

It will be interesting to see your progress on this one. Are you planning to use the kit decals? I have heard a lot of bad things about Academy decals and has therefore never actually used them myself.

Looking forward to see more

Looks great Carlos. I can't wait to see it all painted up. Thanks for sharing the real picture too - saved that one for reference.

Thanks Allen & Jesper.
I made some progres. First I painted the bird with Aluminium Plate Buffing Met (MM), then the yellow tail for which I used Model Master acrylic as per the whell wells, these ones with Green Zinc Chromate. For the anti glare panel I sprayed Vallejo Acrylic Olive Drab.
The imperfection of the seem of the yellow tail where it meets the NMF will be disimulated with the black strip.
Tomorrow IŽll go with the yellow strips on the wings. After the paint job IŽll start with an overall coat of Future.
Here are some pics:

Coments and critics are wellcome.
