One research fiend has written;
". . . WWI enthusiast are surely familiar with the name Koloman Mayrhofer. Since 14 years he (an also his team) works to realize a dream - a 1:1 repro of the famous Albatros D.III (Oeffag) a plane which wasn´t surviving the years.
After 14.000 hrs of researching, building and testing he has finished his project and his dream has come alive. You can see now this plane until the 2nd Sept 2007 in an special exhibition of the "Stadtmusem Wiener Neustadt" south of Vienna. This museum gave an original Austro-Daimler 225hp flying-engine as a loan for this stunning project. Its really fantastic to stand now in front of this plane, which is an important part of aviation history. If you are in this area - a visit is definately a MUST!
Thanks to Koloman Mayrhofer and all others who made this dream come true. . . "

Greetings Merlin;
Here is what I have been told, ". . .this Albatros 253.01 would be flyable but is planned to stay as static display. It will be on display in the Stadtmuseum Wiener Neustadt until 2008. But I have no information about further plans. Maybe Koloman Mayrhofer himself can give us some more information in he future.
A second Albatros is nearly 75% completed. When finished it may be put in the colour scheme and markings of original 235.31. This second Albatros will go to France to acquire a flying patent / certification .... good luck for THAT!!"

Wow.......what I wouldn't give to be involved with a project like that.
And, I'd give even more to fly the bloody thing. I mean, I'm not 'type' rated or anything for a crate like that {how would this be typed?........experimental I guess}, but I'm sure I could take it for a spin and hit the numbers on the return trip.........
Thx for the pics Stephen.

Hello Treadhead,
The full scale replica was photographed in Austria. Looks like the high country in Colorado, don't it? The images posted here are actually lower resolution but for Aeroscale members I can offer these few high res-images for the rest of the month..

Yes....it does Stephen. But then beautiful country is beautiful country no matter where it is.....right?
Your kindly provided Hi-Res images are greatly appreciated...the large sized images with the sun pouring thru the transparent wings showing the spars and ribs are neat......are those dihedral braces I see?
Thx again Stephen for the pics.

Here is the thread that beats all others when it comes to building a fullsized Albatros D.III or D.Va. I usually don't send you all to other sites but this is detail beyond measure.

Hi
Koloman Mayerhofer is a close friend of mine. I had the honour to attend most of his perfomances and also to provide some helping hands for the one or other occassion. He is a real artist and enthusiast about WWI aircraft restauration and building replicas.
I have a huge amount of pics (all hig resolution) and also movieclips of the enginerun to provide all with knowledge and curtsey of Koloman.
Unfortunately may webspace for pics here is full so I am not able to uplod this little treasure.
With best regrads
Peter
