Here''s an In-Box look at Hobby Boss''s big new 1/48 scale Hornet. Despite my unashamed bias towards WW2 era aircraft, this beast has managed to muscle its way onto my workbench to become the first modern jet I''ll have built in years...

Some of it looks just like the hasegawa kit other parts not so much. The two verticle tails are for the very early A model and incorrect for the marking options. I would give the nod to the hasegawa kit

Sounds like a promising kit, there are plenty of decals out and I’m sure one of the aftermarket pieces will fit in, True Details resin seat, Eduards painted PE, Two Bobs AIM-9 and AIM-7 decals, and Microscale decals. Endless resources to make a great Hornet.

Great review Rowan,

Forgot to mention the weapons that come in the kit looks pretty good. The Hasegawa kit has no weapons at all. Aside fron the verticle tails it should build up into a good model.

Cheers guys

I've actually made a tentative start on the model, so I hope to start posting some updates soon. Interestingly, Hobby Boss show the later tail arrangement on the box-top.

It'll be my first modern jet in more years than I care to remember... so don't laugh too much if this old prop-head seems a bit lost at times!

All the best

Rowan
