I am ready to finish up my P-47 Thunderbolt. I've painted it in Tamiya Aicraft Silver and am wondering what color panel wash would be appropriate.
Thanks in advance.

I find that Paynes Grey or Davy's Grey oil paints thinned with turpentine normally works for me.

Thanks Allen. I checked the local arts and crafts store today but they didn't carry those brands. What shade of grey is it? I'm thinking that since the bird is silver that a darker colored grey would be correct. Is that right? I'm really just looking to highlight the panel lines and details and not make them stand out too drastically.

Hi Cary,
I, like Allen, use artists oil paints, thinned with (pure) turpintine for panel line washes. Any make will do, they do not need to be the top brand names.
Paynes Grey is a blue grey and Davey Grey is a brown grey. Either can work but I tend to use Davey Grey on aircraft with RAF Sky, or light grey (Medium Sea Grey, US Neutral Grey), or RLM 76 or similar, Undersurfaces. Davey Grey goes on looking like a medium/dark brownish grey, but dries much light, therefor, in my opinion, being more suited to the sort of colours outlined above. On natural metal finished aircraft I prefer to use a mix of black and white, to give a neutral grey. You can add more black or white to suit. I would certainly never use Balck on it's own.

Hi Cary
This stuff is well worth considering:

It's available in three colours; dark brown, light brown and grey.
