I have started my build of this kit and to be honest this is a beautifully detailed kit but has one major flaw.
You get a great 30mm GAU-8/A Gatling gun but once its in the fuselage all you can see is the end .
Anyhow, back to the build, well I couldn't resist the charms of the gun so that got built first.
The kit is slightly inaccurate as the belt feed for the ammo has a guard around it, but given the size of the belt any guard whether in P.E or plastic would be extremely fragile, so I will let the manufacturer off .
Enough of my mumbling here are some pics.
30mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun.

And one when its inside the fuselage.

I added some weight in the barrel, even though Hobby Boss don't tell you to, at all, anywhere .

Andy,

You are building one of my favorite planes. I have not done a jet in my short time modeling, but the A-10 is a must have! I will be watching your build carefully. Also, I hope you don't mind I included a couple of links to youtube of a A-10 in action in Afghanistan and one of "The Gun" on a test stand.

Hi Andy

The gun looks awesome - I still can't believe Hobby Boss have hidden it away with no access panels...

All the best

Looks good Andy, let me ask this. Didn't the kit come with two gun muzzles, one to install in the nose while the other for the Gatling gun to display. If it isn't to late and you need photoss of the gun let me know. I have a ton of reference books and photos.

I have almost finished mine and it is superb kit.
There are two gun barrels so you can display the gun out of the model.
A few things towatch out for on the two seater, there is a small slimline that needs cleaning up along the side of the lower fuselages.
There is l a mistake on the instrruction where a fuel dump pipe and an aerial have been swoped.
You also have to remove all the flare dispensers from under the wings.
The only bad news is that you do not get the laser and flir pods that the
YA-10B caried for most of its test program

Thanks for all your comments guys.

Derek,
Thanks for the links, the gun is amazing piece of equipment.

Rowan,
A definite own goal. A great looking gun hidden away forever.
By the time I get round to building the "standard" A-10 I'm hoping some nice company will have released an etch set for opening up the panels, if not I'll have to scratch something.

Joe,
So that's what the other gun muzzle is for. I did wonder why there were two.
At no point in the instructions do Hobby Boss tell you about installing it out of the fuselage.

Warthog,
Thanks for the heads upon some future problems I will encounter.
Duly noted on the lack of laser and flir pods and taking the flare dispensers off.

Right back to the office's.
Andy
