Harrier Gr.1/3 exhaust nozzles for Airfix

by: Andy Brazier [ BETHEYN ]

Introduction
Airfix’s 1/72nd Harrier Gr.1/3 kits have both been re-tooled in the last year or so, and although they are pretty well detailed, there is always room for improvement. The Airfix Harrier GR.1 kit is reviewed here. Pavla have seen what needs improving and released a nice set of exhaust nozzles which fit both the GR.1 and GR.3 kits.
In the bag
Packed in a re-sealable bag the four exhaust nozzles are cast as one piece affairs, unlike the Airfix kit parts which are made up of two parts each.
Each nozzle has a casting block attached, but a sharp knife and a little sanding soon removes the block.
Compared to the kit parts these are a lot more refined and have a deeper profile for the slats, and are at a slightly different angle.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: More refined then the kit parts.
Lows: None really
Verdict: Does the Airfix kit need these parts, no the kit parts are adequate, but these parts do notch the kit up.

I then found a friend who enjoyed building models, and between us I think we built the entire range of 1/72 Airfi...

Of course another big advantage of these parts is that they can be just as easily used for older kits which need them more urgently than the new Airfix kits do! Obviously there are the old Airfix GR.1 & GR.3 kits, but also Matchbox, Frog/Hasegawa etc.
