history
The VB series were the first Spitfires able to carry a range of specially designed "slipper" drop tanks which were fitted underneath the wing centre-section. Small hooks were fitted, just forward of the inboard flaps: when the tank was released these hooks caught the trailing edge of the tank, swinging it clear of the fuselage
in the box
Packed in Eduard's plastic blister pack, the one resin part, one small photo etch and a small set of instructions are all foam backed so damage to the parts should be non existent.
The slipper tank is moulded as one piece in a light grey resin.
The part has no flash or imperfections. A large pour plug sits at one end of the tank, but it does look very easy to remove.
The tank is nicely detailed on both sides with recessed panel lines, and recessed rivet detail on the exterior. There is a subtle pillowing effect for the outside of the tank which adds to the effect. A navigation light sits in the middle of the tank. There are several raised areas on inside face of the tank, which conforms well to plans and photos of the tank.
The small photo etch sheet holds the two small hooks which attach to the rear of the tank. Only two hooks are needed, but Eduard supply two spare, so the Carpet monster can be fed lol.

instructions
The instructions show the fitting and placement of the slipper tank, with any parts that have to be removed from the base kit highlighted in red, and the attaching of the two small hooks, which are coloured in blue.
The instructions give you the colour scheme the slipper tank should be painted in, which is a medium seagray.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: Good detail, and easy to fit.
Lows: None
Verdict: A nice addition to the centerline of a Spitfire. Should in theory be able to fit this tank to any maufacturers Mk Vb Spitfire.

I started modelling in the 70's with my Dad building Airfix aircraft kits. The memory of my Dad and I building and painting a Avro Lancaster on the kitchen table will always be with me. I then found a friend who enjoyed building models, and between us I think we built the entire range of 1/72 Airfi...
