Zlin C-205 Trener 6 is a two seat, single engine, all metal, low wing monoplane with a fixed tail wheel type landing gear. It was devoloped as a basic trainer. Later Z-226 variants were optimised to participate in aerobatic competitions.

in the box
Packed in a resealable bag with a card header, the eleven resin parts are well cast with no air bubbles or discrepancies.
The main parts which include a one piece tail with a moulded on rudder, two new elevators and a new front engine cowl are all cast on their own casting blocks.
The two new fixed undercarriage legs, new oleos, two trim tabs are cast in twos.
One very small part is also supplied cast on its own block which I haven't figured out where or what it is for yet.
A vac form one piece canopy completes the contents of the bag.
Detail for the tailplane and elevators is quite good with the ribbing effect subtle. To be honest compared to the kit parts there isn't a great deal of difference.
My kit wheel struts haven't got any oleos moulded onto the parts, even though the instructions show them, so new oleos are welcome.
The wheels struts are slightly better than the kits option, with the ribbed rubber lining for the undercarriage legs well defined.
The new front engine cowling is a bit more refined than the kits part.
The vac form canopy compared to the kits clear plastic part is thinner and less distorted. The canopy will need to be cut out of the excess plastic, and cutting the canopy windscreen from the main canopy, should you wish for it to be displayed open will be easier to do then the kits part. The canopy can be bought separately as item no -V 72-114 , price 1.65.
No instructions are supplied with this set.

Highs: Well cast.
Lows: No instructions
Verdict: This set in my opinion is a bit hit and miss, the base kit will benefit from the new undercarriage struts but the rest of the set is only a little better than the parts from the base kit.

About Andy Brazier (betheyn)

I started modelling in the 70's with my Dad building Airfix aircraft kits. The memory of my Dad and I building and painting a Avro Lancaster on the kitchen table will always be with me. I then found a friend who enjoyed building models, and between us I think we built the entire range of 1/72 Airfi...
