by: Darren Baker [ CMOT ]

Introduction

These two figures from PlusModel in 1/48th scale and in the Aero Line range are described as being specifically for crewing a UH-1 Huey. I will be taking a look at the quality of these two figures and their uses.

Contents

Packaged inside a blister pack with a sliding card backer are the 2 figures, they are nearly complete straight from the pack, with the only assembly required being the need to attach an arm to one of the figures. The image behind the figures in the packaging has a larger image on its reverse side to aid painting.

Review

The two figures are depicted as members of the 7th cavalry. The resin figures have a very good finish to them, being free from problems such as air bubbles and being mounted in such a way that their removal from the pour plug should be not only easy but also painless. The figures are specified as being for a UH-1 Huey helicopter, but look through images of the Vietnam War would indicate to me that they would also be acceptable for a Cobra crew.

The detail for 1/48th scale is very high for such a small scale, perhaps most surprising is that one of the figures is actually smoking a cigarette which is about as big a taboo as you can get in this day and age. Uniform detail consists of one piece flight coveralls and what I think of as a stab vest, the strap, pocket and crease details look accurate and realistic. The boots are the canvas and leather offerings and these are also nicely detailed. A particularly nice touch with these figures is that one has a pair of sunglasses hanging from the top of his stab vest.

Hand and facial details of the figures is also of a high standard and those modellers who are good with face painting should manage a very nice finish. The figures both have their side arms and knifes replicated. the figures have been provided with a nice contrast in headwear, one has a bandana tide around his head the other is wearing a peaked forage cap.

Conclusion

While these are the first 1/48th scale resin figures I can recall looking at, I am impressed as the level of detail would give some 1/35th scale offerings a run for their money. A very impressive pair of figures to man your Vietnam War period chopper.
