Introduction
With Revell of Germany having released their 1/32nd scale Focke Wulf FW 190 F-8 ‘Schlacter’ it has not taken Eduard long to release a whole slew of aftermarket offerings for the model. I have five upgrade sets for the Revell of Germany kit from Eduard covering a photo etched set for the interior, a photo etched set of landing flaps, a set of flexible masks for the canopy, a resin and photo etched set for the MG131 mounts and their cowling and finally a resin and photoetched cockpit, all of these items are specifically for the Revell of Germany offering in 1/32nd scale.

Contents
This product is packaged in one of Eduard’s plastic bag hangers with card stiffeners in the pack; I strongly suggest that the contents are checked for bending damage before purchasing this product. The contents consist of 2 photo etched frets and a fold out instruction sheet.

Review
This offering will add an interesting look to a finished Revell of Germany 1/32nd scale Focke Wulf FW 190 F-8 ‘Schlacter’. My concern here is that it is a product for people who are very comfortable with photo etch only, it does look to me as if it will cause a few swear words during the manipulation of the parts. The sample that has been sent to me here is actually incorrectly packed as they have supplied two identical frets instead of a fret for the left and another for the right wing, I don't know if this is a one off issue or a batch problem, so again check your purchase.

This particular purchase will have a better look then the kit supplied detail and I believe will be better from a scale size point of view. I like that Eduard supplies modellers with the option of sets such as these landing flaps, but I feel that this product is not a must have and instead it really depends on what you want and how you intend to display your finished model. The set requires the removal of quite a lot of plastic detail from the model in the wing area and with the delicate nature of these parts and that includes curves as well as bends being required really does take this product into the realm of skilled photo etch users.

Conclusion

This product from Eduard replaces the moulded flap area supplied by Revell of Germany, and the detail is far superior in look and finesse, but it is for an area of the model that is not easily seen. It is a set that will test the skills and patience of the modeller and while I am reasonably happy with using photo etch I would likely not use it on the model. Please do not take these comments as negatives as it is more a case of being aware of my limitations and trying to get the point across to you the reader. This is a very well designed product and is an improvement on the base model.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: A very high level of detail is provided by this product.
Lows: The product is incorrectly packed meaning I have 2 flaps for the same wing. The construction of these parts will require a good level of skill in the use of photo etch.
Verdict: If you want to display the flaps accurately and you are competent with the use of photo etch then this product could be just what you are looking for.
