History
The AN/AAQ-28(V) Litening targeting pod is an Israeli-designed precision targeting pod system currently operational with a wide variety of combat aircraft. The Litening is an integrated targeting pod that mounts externally to the aircraft. The targeting pod contains a high-resolution, forward-looking infrared (FLIR) sensor that displays an infrared image of the target to the aircrew; it has a wide field of view search capability and a narrow field of view acquisition/targeting capability of battlefield-sized targets. The pod also contains a CCD camera used to obtain target imagery in the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. An on-gimbal inertial navigation sensor establishes line-of-sight and automatic boresighting capability.
The pod is equipped with a laser designator for precise delivery of laser-guided munitions. A laser rangefinder provides information for various avionics systems, for example, navigation updates, weapon deliveries and target updates. The targeting pod includes an automatic target tracker to provide fully automatic stabilized target tracking at altitudes, airspeeds and slant ranges consistent with tactical weapon delivery maneuvers. These features simplify the functions of target detection and recognition, and permit attack of targets with precision-guided weapons on a single pass.

In the box
Packed in Eduards standard blister pack, the kit comes with two resin parts, two photo etch parts, a set of decals and a small instruction sheet.
Packaging as normal for Eduard in the blister pack is top notch, with the resin parts well protected with a foam backing.
The resin parts are light grey in colour and havea small casting block attached to each piece, which shouldn't be too difficult to remove.
External detail for the main body consists of raised areas for the fasteners, and recessed lines for the panels. The ball sensor has two recessed discs for the IR and camera to look through, and one will need to be painted clear blue, with the other is a yellow.
The ball sensor can be mounted with the sensors showing or if you turn it 180 degrees, it can be in the stowed postion.
The photo etch in the kit is a blanking plate which has two mesh squares, which fits on the rear of the pod. Eduard have kindly given us a spare on the fret.

Decals and instructions
A small set of stencils are supplied which are pretty good. The decals have minimal carrier film, but due to the size the writing isn't particully ledgible, but who in thier right mind is going to sit and read them lol. There is a few spares of the smaller decals on the sheet.
The instruction sheet has the build sequnce, if you can call it that, with the kit only having three parts. The decal placement guide and a painting guide. Colours are for the Gunze Mr Color and Aqueous paints range.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: Nice detail and extremely easy build
Lows: None really
Verdict: If your aircraft carries an external targeting system, then you can't go far wrong with adding Eduard's AN/AAQ-28(V) Litening pod to it.

I started modelling in the 70's with my Dad building Airfix aircraft kits. The memory of my Dad and I building and painting a Avro Lancaster on the kitchen table will always be with me. I then found a friend who enjoyed building models, and between us I think we built the entire range of 1/72 Airfi...
