Iliad Design have released an excellent set of decals offering alternative colour schemes for Revell's very neat new-tool Stearman "Kaydet" (reviewed
HERE). Of course, you could equally use them for Lindberg's vintage kit which is still available, but the new Revell kit so outclasses it, that's the one I'd choose.
With a mix of classic Light Blue/Yellow, aluminium-doped and even field-camouflaged machines, the sheet offers marking for five really attractive schemes:
1. PT-17 "BP30", 4 British Flight Training School, Mesa, Arizona.
2. PT-17 s/n 216546, Kunming, China
3. N2S-3 s/n 39123
4. N2S-4 s/n 29950, Gross Ile, Michigan
5. PT-27 s/n FJ888, 36 Elementary Flight Training School, Pearce, Alberta
The decals look superb quality, being thin and glossy with crystal clear carrier film and printed in perfect register. They are accompanied by an excellent instruction sheet, with full-colour profiles and plan views with useful captions offering advice on matching the wartime colours to modern FS equivalents.
Conclusion
What a great sheet! The only problem for me will be choosing which of the schemes to go for. I think, inevitably, I'm going to have to buy a bunch of extra Stearmans, because I want to build
all the featured aircraft! Recommended.
