Roy Sutherland has released a beautifully detailed resin cockpit upgrade for Airfix’s new-tool Lightning F.6. Roy’s work has always been superb, and this set fully lives up to his well-justified reputation, boasting some of the finest detail I’ve seen in this scale. You really need a magnifier to see it too its best effect as, to be honest, it outdoes what you might expect in 1:48 or even 1:32 from many aftermarket sources.
BR72212 - EE/BAC Lightning F.6 Cockpit Set comprises:
12 x cream resin parts
A small sheet of decals for the instruments and data placards.
The decals are thoughtfully provided as two layers to ensure perfect registration, as the slightest offset would be obvious in this small scale.
Roy provides a comprehensive set of step-by-step instructions illustrated with useful colour photos of the construction, along with a reference shot of the Martin Baker Mk 4 ejection seat. Close-up shots show how to prepare the parts and where you need to make minor alterations to get the Airfix kit to accept the upgrade.
With careful painting the result will be simply phenomenal - as you can see on the ejection seat alone in Magnus Fridsell’s
Lightning Double-Build in the Forum.
With its delicacy and level of detail, this certainly isn’t a beginner’s upgrade, but in experienced hands it will totally transform the Airfix kit’s “office”. Highly recommended.
