RA-5C Vigilante Detail Set 49-308

by: Chuck Shanley [ CRS ]

Contents
In keeping with their “new” format the PE set contains color panels. There are two frets in the package, one for the Cockpit and one for External detailing.

That’s right, the Cockpit detail fret contains colored panels, the Cockpit “black boxes” are black with Air Force gray surround shading for “fixed” paneling. The Ejection Seat harnesses are shaded in both black and dark gray. The large Radar displays are also shaded, and instruments and switches are “printed” on the panels, displaying outstanding detail. A good degree of caution will need to be exercised, when working with parts from this fret, so as not to damage the colored portion of the panels when bending them.

The Cockpit fret provides detailing parts for both front and rear ejection seats and front and rear set instrumentation.

The External detail fret does not contain colored panels, but does contain some outstanding detail additions. This fret contains landing gear and landing gear bay detailing parts, as well as Canopy detail enhancements, and Exhaust nozzle “tail feather” ribs.

This detail set will definitely be of interest to anyone wanting to build a detailed RA-5C. The instruction are clear in providing pictures of original kits parts to be removed and the addition of the PE. The set is obviously geared to a more advanced modeler, due to the set of some of the parts. I all honesty, I must admit I would probably forgo the “tail feather” ribs, in the interest of maintaining my sanity. There are 24 ribs per nozzle and they are very small. Of course, a talented modeler wishing to provide the detail would include them.

Conclusion
Whether you use all the parts provided or not, I think the addition of this detail set will provide you with enhancements to your model you can be proud of. Eduard also offers a “Masking set” EX 069, not included with the PE.

Thank you to Eduard for kindly supplying the review sample.
SUMMARY
To compliment the fervor caused by Trumpeter’s release of the RA-5C Vigilante, Eduard has released an excellent 1/48 detail set.

Why 1/72, mainly for space conservation I build alot. I build primarily for my own enjoyment, and Armorama has helped to en...
