Roy Sutherland has recently released a comprehensive set of Fw 190 servicing stencils as part of his BarracudaCals range.

The markings are available in 1:48 and 1:72 and contain identical items, the only difference being that the 1:72 sheet contains two full sets of stencils as against one set in the larger scale.

The sets are very complete, with servicing markings, fuel type triangles, wing walkway outlines, positions for control surface locks etc., plus data-plates for the undercarriage legs and a selection of "Keine Bombe!" legends for drop tanks. Along with the exterior markings, there's a warning placard for the pilot's headrest. Many of the items are offered in alternative colours, so you'll ideally want to track down a reference shot of any particular aircraft if possible to select the appropriate style.

The printing is by Cartograf and immaculate as usual, with precise registration and minimal carrier film. The resolution is quite superb with the tiny lettering quite legible under a magnifier even on the 1:72 sheet!

Backing up the decals is a well designed set of instructions, with a detailed generic guide to applying decals correctly and a clearly drawn placement guide. The set includes markings for radial-engined Fw 190s and the later Dora models so, again, it will be a great help if you can access reference shots to check what markings are evident - especially if the subject you're modelling was repainted in the field.

Conclusion

This is another excellent release from Barracuda Studios, providing top quality aftermarket replacements for kit decals which either don't include a full set of stencil markings or are of inferior quality. Recommended.
