Roy Sutherland has recently added an excellent set of airframe stencils to his range of BarracudaCals. The stencils are available in 1:72 and 1:48 and are very complete in both scales, the only difference being that modellers working in the smaller scale get two full sets on the sheet.
Apart from a choice of three styles of decals for the inside of the cockpit access door, all the items are designed for the exterior of the airframe, with markings for a 250 lb bomb included for good measure. There are the usual trestle location marks and wing walkway outlines, W/T stencils and access cover text etc., plus spinner markings and propeller logos.
The decals are beautifully printed by Cartograf to their usual superb standard. It's easy to see why they are among the leading decal printers, with even the smallest text crisp and legible and minimal excess carrier film on the thin, glossy items.
Roy provides a very useful 9-point guide on how to apply decals, outlining the use of solvents and setting solutions. The positions of the stencils are show on a clearly drawn set of side profiles and plan views, with extra diagrams for the spinner and bomb.
The sets are available now, direct from Barracuda Studios:
Item #BC72378 - Spitfire Late Mark Airframe Stencils (2 sets) - Price: $7.95
Item #BC48375 - Spitfire Late Mark Airframe Stencils - Price: $5.95
Conclusion
Barracuda Studios' Spitfire stencils are beautifully produced and will be an ideal upgrade for any late mark 1:72 or 1:48 Spitfire kit that includes incomplete or poor quality decals.
