History
The Mark 24 mine (also known as FIDO or Fido) was a United States air-dropped passive acoustic homing anti-submarine torpedo used during the Second World War against German and Japanese submarines. It entered service in March 1943 and continued in service with the US Navy until 1948.
Approximately 4,000 torpedoes were produced, sinking 37 and damaging a further 18 submarines out of a total of 204 fired. The torpedo was also supplied to the British and Canadian forces.
The deceptive name of "Mark 24 Mine" was deliberately chosen for security purposes, to conceal the true nature of the weapon.

In the box
Packed in a plastic blister box, the resin parts are sandwiched between the clear front and a foam backing. The P.E is packed in a separate compartment, backed up with a cardboard insert sellotaped into place.
The instructions are in the back of the packaging.

Two torpedo's can be built in this set, and are designed to fit to the Eduard Riders in the Sky 1945, Liberator GR Mk.VI and GR Mk.VIII boxing.

The resin parts are well moulded without any imperfections, and have some nice detail moulded onto them. A small photo etch fret holds four nose parts, of which 2 are spare as these are very small.
Each resin part is attached to a pour block, but having used Eduard Brassin parts before, there should be no trouble removing them.

Each torpedo is made up of 5 resin parts and one small photo etch part.
The torpedo's are built in carriage mode and have the breakaway nose and tail sections. This is a must as Eduard's nose section is to flat and not rounded enough. Once the breakaway nose part is on, its not that noticeable.

With only two torpedo's supplied, you will need more then one set to have a complete load out on the aircraft.

Instructions, markings and decals
The instructions are on a A5 size sheet that is folded in half. The build sequence takes place over 3 steps and is easy to follow as each part to be attached is clearly marked out. A nice touch by Eduard is a blue line drawing of the part attached, so the exact position is clear.
A painting guide is supplied with a Olive Drab/white scheme applied. Paints are for the Mr Color and Aqueous range of paints.

About Andy Brazier (betheyn)

I started modelling in the 70's with my Dad building Airfix aircraft kits. The memory of my Dad and I building and painting a Avro Lancaster on the kitchen table will always be with me. I then found a friend who enjoyed building models, and between us I think we built the entire range of 1/72 Airfi...
