ICM Holding has released a set of decals that provides additional marking options for their 1/32 scale kit of the Bücker Bü 131D [ICM no 32030]. It contains four marking options for the flight training schools of the Hungarian, Croatian and Italian [Albania] Air Forces.
The decals are waterslide and are produced by ICM. Quality looks superb: they are thin, semi glossy and the colour strength looks very good. The definition and separation of colour is excellent. The instrument faces are also included on the sheet. There are two groups of instrument, although each instrument is big enough to be cut and placed individually in the recesses on the instrument panel.
The four marking options include: ●1 Bücker Bü 131D, ‘I.449’, Flight School of the Hungarian Air force, summer 1941
Overall RLM 02 grey with yellow fuselage band ●2 Bücker Bü 131D, ‘IO 64’, 1022 Fast Bomber Squadron, Hungarian Air force, summer 1944
Upper surface RLM 71 dark green with RLM 65 light blue under surfaces. Yellow band around rear fuselage and lower surface of the wing tips. The tail surfaces are painted red, white and green, no decal supplied. ●3 Bücker Bü 131D, ‘7501’ Craoatin Air Force, Zagreb, 1943
Overall RLM 02 grey with narrow yellow fuselage band ●4 Bücker Bü 131D,’947’, Italian Air force, Tirana [Albania], Autumn 1941
Overall RLM 02 grey with white fuselage band. The white cross on the rudder is supplied as a decal.
All the insignia and identification numbers are supplied as well as a first aid kit and fuel stencils.
The single double sided instruction sheet provides the one profile image of each of the marking options. The upper and lower wings tips are shown for each to illustrate the placing of insignia and any colour
Conclusions
This is an interesting line of additional marking options that ICM has started. Personally it offers a set of more interesting markings than is offered in the first ICM release of the 1/32 scale Bücker Bü 131D, with the exception of the winter version. Hopefully ICM will go a step further and release some of the civilian liveries found on privately owned Bü 131D. They can also be used on the Revell 1/32 scale release, as it is a re-box of the ICM kit. The quality of the decals looks superb.
SUMMARY
Highs: More interesting choice of markings provided with the original kit release
Lows: NoneVerdict: If you were put off buying the kit because of the marking options, then you might want to look at it again with this release. Highly recommended.
