F-105F/G Thunderchief Wild Weasel

by: Chip Bullitt [ CHIP250 ]

If your in the mood for a Vietnam aircraft with good detail and that is relatively easy to build, then Revell's F-105F/G is the model for you. I will review the kit detail, decals and a few other things that make this kit a must have for the Vietnam enthusiast.

Kit Detail and Parts Layout
The whole model is broken down into:2-Fuselage Halves4- Sprues of Parts1- Clear Parts SpruePlus directions and decals. Also included is a 48 page historical book written by Bert Kinzey. It's filled with good reference images that will help you build and detail your Thunderchief along with other aircraft. It's a nice addition to the kit.

Kit Detail
The cockpit is nice from the aspect of detail. Although I'm sure that some builders can find additional places to super detail in cockpit, those that don't want to go through the hassle of super detailing should be happy with it 'as is'.The kit includes two pilot figures, and eight bombs. The bombs are a mix of 750lb and 500lb'ers. Other underwing stores include radar jamming gear and drop tanks. The panel lines are raised. For the builder that can't live with this, it should be easy to sand and rescribe them. The end result will only add to the beauty of this model.Much of the rest of the kit is basic but crisply detailed in spots and just plain great in the others.

Decals
The decals that are included in the kit are for two versions. They are:1. "Peach 91" of the Geogia Air National Guard.2. "Hanoi Hustler"The decals are very detailed and are very "colorful"-especially "Peach 91".The 'Wild Weasel' insignia is standard for both versions. The decals that are included in the kit should make the aircraft look even better when finished.

Building Instructions and Verdict
The instructions are detailed but easy to understand and follow. There are 12 steps excluding the decals. The instructions also include painting instructions for both aircraft, and their camo schemes.Anyone that is interested in building a Vietnam era aircraft that is easy on the wallet or purse should look into Revell's "F One Oh Five" Wild Weasel. Also, if a builder can find it, Revell's F-105D is a good choice also. Basically the F/G is a D version with a backseater.I hope that I have helped in deciding what to buiild in terms of a modern jet with a touch of age and prestige. I highly recommend this kit to the beginning builder and even the experienced builder.
