The instrument panel and seat harness set is designed for the Tamiya 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.1. The detail parts are glued onto a sheet of card. The single sheet has the instructions painted on both sides. The contents are wrapped in a resealable cellophane sleeve.
The body of the instrument panel is made from black resin and the instruments are painted or printed on. The instrument panel is attached via eight small stems that should be easy enough to remove. As they are attached to the underside of the panel no touching up will be required, just sand any resin standing proud. The quality of the paintwork on the instrument faces and switches is very good. When you look very closely there is still that slight unevenness on the surface of the painted area. But you do have to look very closely to see this. I have been unfair taking such close up images, but you can see the quality of the finish is very good. The instrument panel is also a lot more three dimensional looking compared to the rather flat looking photo etched equivalent.
This is a direct replacement for the kits plastic injected instrument panel. The LööK instrument panel is a lot easier to handle and the paint work tolerates handling, unlike the photo etched equivalents.
The pre-coloured photo etched seat harness is a very welcome addition to this set. The harness correctly depicts the Sutton harness and the strap is attached to frame eleven, the frame directly behind the pilot. The instructions provide details on how to fit them to the seat and frame. Just be careful removing the fret from the cardboard backing as the glue used is very strong and you could distort the fret quite badly.
Conclusions
The new LööK range of instruments seems to be a step forward. We have become accustomed to Eduards pre-coloured photo etched instrument panels and although they seemed a quantum leap when the first appeared, they do require great care when attaching. The LööK range simplifies the process significantly with impressive results. This set will improve the look of the Tamiya Spitfire Mk.1 cockpit with little effort.
