Introduction

When I was a kid just about every model aeroplane purchased usually had a pilot figure included, the problem with this is that the figures did not have what you would call good detail generally. In today’s aircraft model offerings it is rare to find a figure included unless it is a release of a much older model. Finding suitable figures for a model has become a little easier of late with ICM releasing figures in 1/48th and 1/32nd scale, but injection moulded plastic struggles to meet the detail or the finesse offered by resin products. In this review I will be looking at a 1/32nd scale World War 2 F4U Corsair Pilot figure in resin.

Review

This figure is supplied by Plus Model in a blister pack with a card hanger. The figure is supplied in two pieces in the form of a full body with separate left arm. The parts are protected by a foam insert that reduces the movement of the resin pieces. There are no written instructions for this release but a coloured drawing is on the front of the card hanger as a guide to painting the figure. on the alternate side of the card is a larger drawing of the figure in order to assist further.

The figure is depicted as wearing the khaki one piece coverall type M-426A USN Flight Suit and model B-5 (AN6519-1) “Mae West” Survival Flotation Vest. There are some survival kit on the front of the Mae West is unknown to me. On the right hip is an M1915 holster which is appropriate for the period.

Now I have some issues with this figure which may be my problem or my eyes are getting worse. The first is that the head looks small to me when compared to the body; it does have a very high level of detail which is well and gives the figure a happy outlook. The second issue I have is that the legs look great scale wise from the front and rear but way to thin from the sides.

Conclusion

I am as a rule a really big fan of the pilot figures from PlusModel, but this one just does not do it for me. I cannot say that the legs and head are wrong, but visually they look out of scale in the case of the head and deformed on the legs from the side. It is a shame I feel like this as it has a lot to offer in other respects.
