Introduction
Kazan Model Dynamics are a new company hailing from Canada, and have already released three sets for Hasegawa's 1/48th F-14 Tomcat, covering the wing glove details, spine details, and upper fuselage accesses, two of which are already sold out.
Kazan Model Dynamics website is more than just a selling page as they are producing a blog about up and coming products and news, and articles on various modelling techniques with the first a very informative piece on creating a NMF on a 1/48th MiG-21 using foil.

In the box
The P-51 HybridCAST landing gear set arrives in an end opening box, with the 20 resin and resin/metal parts sealed in a zip-lock bag wrapped securely in bubble wrap, so damage of the parts will be minimal.

All the parts are beautifully cast with no imperfections that I can see. All the parts are connected to a pouring block, but look very easy to de-attach.

Three different tread patterns are supplied for the tyres, diamond, brick and oval. The tyres are all one piece, and unweighted. The tread is not overly done. Compared to the Eduard plastic parts, the profile is more squared and seem slightly bulkier in appearance. Separate two piece hubs are supplied, which have some nice detail, with spokes on one side and a nice brake effect on the rear hub, much the same as the plastic parts but a little more refined.

The landing gear legs are truly amazing with a very well cast leg, which are complete with brake lines. A little clean up is needed, so care needs to be taken removing the flash from in between the brake line and leg. A metal core which is made of stainless steel is cast into the resin legs, and not only gives the leg a nice bit of strength, but also serves as the compression oleo. As its already a very polished metal colour, this won't need painting, but it could be a bit of a pain to mask if your spraying the legs.
Separate oleos for the legs are also supplied.

One nice touch from Kazan Model Dynamics is the inclusion of the gear leg doors with its mounting bracket. The door is exceptionally thin with detail on both front and back of the part. The inner face is not as pronounced as the Eduard part, and on the whole is slightly thinner.
Another part supplied is the main gear doors actuator, this part is a resin and metal part, so the compression part is stainless steel, and therefore does not require painting.

Building the landing gear is near enough the same as the plastic equivalents, but there is one less part as the tyres are one piece where the Eduard tyres are split in half.
All the parts go together well without any hiccups, and all though the legs look a little longer, once inserted into the bays they are the same length as the kits offerings.

An A4 size instruction sheet is supplied which contains the build sequence. As the parts are a direct replacement for the Eduard parts, no surgery is required.

Conclusion
Kazan Model Dynamics is another new company on the block producing aftermarket parts for kits, which is a good thing as it gives us consumers more choice.
Thier first three sets are for the F-14, with three of the next four, due out anytime soon, are destined for two Eduard kits, the Bf-109 (reviewed here by Rowan Baylis) and two sets for Eduards new tool P-51. The fourth set is new undercarrige for Tamiya's 1/48th F-14.
Although thier website is a work in progress, given time I think it will be a valuble resource for not only A.M parts but also for helpful articles on modelling techniques, so I believe Kazan Model Dynamics are one to watch and to look out for.

About Andy Brazier (betheyn)

I started modelling in the 70's with my Dad building Airfix aircraft kits. The memory of my Dad and I building and painting a Avro Lancaster on the kitchen table will always be with me. I then found a friend who enjoyed building models, and between us I think we built the entire range of 1/72 Airfi...
