Introduction
Airfix's new tool 1/72nd MiG-17F, reviewed
here, is pretty detailed out of the box, but some areas could do with a helping hand, and
Eduard have released a resin set of wheels and nose gear leg to replace the kits parts.
In the bag
Eduard's Brassin range of products used to come in a blister pack, but recently they have changed them to either carboard boxes or plastic re-sealable bags, which cuts down on plastic use and makes it easier to store them.
This set comes in the re-sealable bag and has six resin parts, one set of masks and a small instruction sheet.
The parts are all cast very well with no signs of bubbles or other discrepancies, but they are all connected to casting blocks. These look to be fairly easy to remove with only minor clean up required afterwards.
Two types of main wheels are supplied, one has a spoked pattern on the back, with the other having a plain back, the fronts also slightly differ as well with one set having a bit more detail in the form of bolts on it.
All the main wheels have a sidewall tread pattern on them, including a manufacturers name, which is ineligible, and probably in Cyrillic anyway. The detail on the sidewalls is a little more subtle then on the kits wheels.
All the main wheels have a slight weighted look to them.
The nose gear is completely replaced with a resin nose leg and one piece wheel.
The nose gear leg is very well detailed and a big improvement over the kit part. Two thin rods 1.5mm long needs to be added to either side of the leg. The rods are not supplied.
The nose wheel is separate, unlike the kits one which is moulded as part of the nose gear leg. The detail is a lot more refined then the kits wheel. The hub is more detailed and the tyre has a nice tread detail moulded into it.
A nice bonus in this set is the inclusion of a mask set for the tyres.
This is the usual Kabuki tape style mask, and is for the tyre portion of the wheels so the hubs can be painted.
Instructions
The instructions are the normal Brassin style, so its printed on a A5 size sheet that is folded in half.
The instructions are easy to follow, with only three steps in the build sequence, well not really a build as such more of where and what they replace.
Paint numbers are supplied for the Gunze Sangyo Aqueous Hobby colour and MR Color range of paints.
Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on
