The LööK range is a new method of producing instrument panels [IP] by Eduard. They are a marked improvement on the printed photo etched [PE] IP’s Eduard has manufactured over the last decade. This set also includes pre-coloured photo etched seat harnesses.
Contents include four resin parts and a small pre-coloured photo etched fret as well as instructions.
I had a quick look at images of the instrument panel of the Tiger Moth on Google and was initially disappointed to see there was a dissimilarity between the Eduard offering and a lot of the images. But as this is a vintage aircraft, things change as has the Tiger Moth instrument panel. This layout seems to fit a 1944 vintage Tiger Moth. The RAAF pilot notes [1944] for the DH.82 is a pretty close match to the IP that Eduard presents in this release. So check your references if accuracy is important.
The instruments are direct replacements for the kit parts. The instrument themselves are nicely represented the instrument panels have a slight sheen to them, but the instrument faces are glossy. The faces have the various dials and the impression of numerals. Close up there’s a real depth to the instrument faces, looking at them your almost waiting for them to burst into life. The separate resin compass sits on a bracket created using one of the photo etched parts. The PE parts needs bending to shape to form the bracket. The unit sits horizontally below the IP. Although I cannot read the information on the placards, they still look pretty representational of the real thing.
The PE harnesses will need bending to achieve a realistic drape on the kit’s plastic seats. There are twelve PE parts altogether. The harnesses look excellent with the distinctive large holes well represented. The glue holding the fret is quite strong and ii is a struggle to separate it from the cardboard backing without distorting the PE parts. I would suggest cutting the parts of the fret whilst still attached to the backing.
Instructions are pretty straightforward to follow.
Conclusions
Eduards LööK one-piece instrument panels are a quantum leap in appearance and application. Much better looking than the traditional Eduard pre-painted photo etched instrument panels and the additional seat harnesses are a real plus.
SUMMARY
Highs: Eduards LööK one-piece instruments have a much better appearance than the pre-painted multiple piece ones Eduard has produced for over the years. Lows: The glue holding the PE fret to the backing card is very strong, making it difficult to separate.
Verdict: This set will add a tremendous amount of detail to the Airfix DH-82 Tiger Moth with little effort. Highly recommended
