The contents are packed in a small cardboard carton that should slip through most folks’ letterbox. Everything is contained separately in zip bags and anything that shares a bag has a card insert separating them. The paper instructions stop the contents sliding around. Inside the packaging you will find four Eduard sets including:
648247 - Bf 109G Resin Exhaust Stacks
The resin exhausts replacing the kits plastic ones are beautifully cast with indentation at the end and the distinctive seam down from flared end of the pipe. There is a resin housing that attaches to the inside of the nose and the exhaust slides in from the outside. Eduard has supplied the glare guards as un-painted photo etched items [PE1-3]. There’s a good diagram in the instructions on how PE3 fits around the port side exhaust, which requires gentle bending. Wish the instruction were like this for Bf 109 G-6 kit I built recently.
648261 - Bf 109G-6 Resin Wheels
The resin one-piece wheels look excellent with some great detail. The uninterrupted tread line will be appreciated although the attachment point to the casting block seems a bit excessive. But when you separate the casting block from the wheel it’s not excessive. You can clean up the detachment area to represent the point where the tyre is in contact with the ground. Masks are included for where the tyre meets the rim of the wheel.
EX582 - Bf 109G Classic Canopy TFace
The masks included are suitable for the earlier framed canopies and not the Erla Haube canopies. Paint masks are included for both the inside and outside the windscreen and canopy, particularly important if you’re displaying the canopy open. There are also paint masks for the wheels, two types of seat head armour and navigation lights on the wing. The masks are placed on Eduards new thinner backing, but experience using them recently shows there is no difference in the quality or ease of use. I have found if you treat the masks gently you can use them at least a couple of times. Just make sur you put the window mask back on the backing in the same order.
644003 - Bf 109G-6 LööK Instrument Panel and Seat Harnesses
The one-piece resin instrument panel [IP] has all the detail already painted on and it does look pretty good. The instrument faces are nicely represented and they are set in a glossy clear finish giving the appearance of glass. There are multiple casting branches to remove, but this is straight forward and require minimal clean up. The attachment points are placed at the bottom of the IP so your even less likely to see the area. The seat harness looks excellent and the guide shows how to place them on the kits seat.
All the sets come with individual instructions and the actions required to use the parts are colour coded.
Conclusions
This is a great set to acquire if you have the Weekend or Overtrees Editions of Eduards quarter scale Bf109 G’s. Eduards plastic parts are excellent quality, but the resin parts included with this set add that bit of extra detail to the wheels and exhaust. The one-piece instrument panel will save time installing and the level of detail is what the most modellers dream they could attain with a brush. One thing not to overlook is the amount you save if you buy this set rather buying the items individually. You save just over 40% which equates to getting the wheels and exhausts free.
