If you want to build a realistic airfield diorama, you just have to add some fuel drums. But unfortunately those provided in the mainstream kits always look the same. This is why Plus Model's 1/48 Fuel-Stock Equipment set, at least for modelers who like to replicate Luftwaffe scenes, is an interesting reference.
The set
The various resin parts of the set are located in a small plastic bag (picture 1). Inside you will find the following items (picture 2):
- four fuel barrels
- two fuel pumps
- four smaller Glysantin (antifreeze) drums
- five "Jerry-cans"
- six "Kraftstoff" containers (triangular shaped - two sizes)
- two oil dispensers
- two metal jugs
The small resin replicas are excellently cast as you can see on pictures 2 and 3. The quality is top notch and the details crispely done (see handles for exemple). It's also nice to have two opened fuel barrels (picture 4) but unfortunately Plus Models didn't included twisted ones or at least some with bumps.
The only work you will have to do with this set is to remove the casting blocks and paint the parts. Even instructions are provided to show you where to apply the little decals (picture 4). Of course don't use the "Heer" ones!
Too bad the instructions didn't included a painting guide, but I guess the variations in color where numerous for these containers and probably impossible to track.
Conclusion
If you like Luftwaffe subjects and if you build German WW2 dioramas from time to time, then this set is highly recommended to you as it will add some diversity in the scene.
Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AeroScale.
SUMMARY
You can't have too many... fuel drums! Especially if you are building aircraft dioramas. Having noticed that, Plus Model made a nice 1/48 scale German WW2 Fuel-Stock Equipment set. Although not exclusively aircraft oriented, it can also be used to add that little plus to a Luftwaffe diorama.
