CH-53E Super Stallion Cargo Seatbelts

by: Joe Szczygielski [ MOTHER ]

Brief History
The CH-53E Super Stallion is designed for the transportation of equipment, supplies and personnel. Capable of both internal and external transport of supplies, the CH-53E is shipboard compatible and capable of operation in adverse weather conditions both day and night.

Standing at 28 feet in height and just over 99 feet long the 53E will carry 37 passengers in its normal configuration and 55 passengers with centerline seats installed, and capable of lifting 7 tons

The triple engine Stallion was introduced to the Marine Corps in 1981 and is the most powerful helicopter in the U.S. military inventory. Today the Super Stallions still play a major role in Iraq, moving supplies and ammunition to the most forward Marine units and also assisting in moving casualties back to the rear.

The detail set
Here we take a look at 1of 3 new releases for the 1/48th CH-53E - the Cargo Seatbelt Set, item # 49 026. The set contains 56 pieces on one fret, and a single sided instruction sheet. You get 24 sets of belts, 12 for each side of the cargo bay area. Eduard did a nice job, not only are they painted, they also have the stitching and manufacturer tag printed on them. Each part is held in place using thin attachment tabs, something I favor which lessens the damage during its removal.

Looking at the instruction sheet, you build them in sections. Each cargo set receives 4 seatbelts and 5 lug rings, then they are attached to the side walls using a 0.4mm wire.

Conclusion
This detail set is geared more for the advanced modeler as this set contains many small pieces.
If you're planning on modeling this big bird with it’s cargo ramp down, then this set will look great attached to the side walls. And to really make them stand out I suggest also using the CH-53E interior set, which contains abundance of pieces that will enhance the sidewalls also. The interior set can be seen here in my review section.

SUMMARY
Academy/MRC released their CH-53E Super Stallion in early spring, and within months Eduard comes through once again with an excellent set of super detailed-colorful photo etch. Packaged in their familiar resealable clear plastic pouch, the frets are protected by a piece of cardboard that keeps them safe from bending and meshing with each other.

No this set is designed for the CH-53, these are shoulder harnesses. They are installed behind the head. The CH-46 and 47 seatbelts are lap belts, they are installed threw the seat behind the lower back. Now I have seen some CH-47’s from different countries that had belts that were over the shoulder, just can’t remember from where. Check here... Eduard, type in the search box CH-46 and 47, there you'll see all their products including their interior sets. Joe
