Trumpeter's 1/32 scale Messerschmitt 262 kit is one the best kit produced by the Chinese manufacturer to date. If you want to read a review of the kit written by Rowan Baylis (Merlin), take a look
here . His comment about the wheels was the following:
"The tyres are vinyl, which I must admit isn't my favourite choice; apart from usually looking too dark, it has a horrible tendency to melt styrene through a chemical reaction."
Good news, there is now an alternative to the original kit parts in form of a set produced by the French manufacturer Signifer. Not only are the replacement wheels in resin, but M. Meissonier, the sculptor, also added some more details to the already splendid kit parts:
- improved rim details
- brake line attachments (wire provided in the set)
- manufacturer logo on the tire
- tire specifications
- deeper tread
- subtle bulging
The moldings are flawless on my sample and from experience I can say that the light blue resin is easy to work with. A little cleaning is needed but of course the pouring marks are located where they won't be visible at the end. One will also have to drill out the holes to fit the wheels on the landing legs.
Like in the Trumpeter kit, two different front wheels are provided in Signifer's set. Lead wire is also included, as well as a small instruction picture that shows where the brake lines are located.
For availability, check at Great Models for example, they have all the Signifer references in their catalogue. You can also take a look at Signifer's website.
