Developed in the summer of 1917 from a biplane scheduled for the Austro-Hungarians the pedigree of the V.4 and V.5 is well documented in The Fokker Triplane by Mr. A.Imrie. Though only four pre-production airframes were actually built, their modification and front line employment has not been forgotten. These were fitted with a 120hp Oberursel rotary in its fighter assignment capacity.
Following on the heels of the Fokker Dr.I kit this version represents the preproduction triplanes that were designated the "F" series . The most famous airframes being Fok. F.I 102/17 flown by MvR and Fok. F.I 103/17 flown by Ltn. Werner Voss. The legendary last flight of Voss vs members of 56 Sqn RFC on Sept. 23, 1917.
Voss was killed during a legendary dogfight with seven S.E.5as, Werner Voss drove two planes to the ground and damaged the rest before his "silvery blue" Fokker F.I was shot down by Arthur Rhys Davids.

McCudden, No. 56 Squadron ... saw a S.E.5a fighting a triplane, so with others dived at it, and for the next ten minutes the enemy triplane fought the five S.E.5s with great skill and determination. Eventually, however, it was destroyed by 2nd-Lieut. Rhys Davids of the same squadron, who had previously driven down a two-seater. . .The triplane was seen to crash in our lines by other pilots and the other occupant proved to be Lieut. SUMMARY
Highs: 1. Beautiful engine with separate tops for the cylinders.2. Well done mid wing fairings to fuselage.3. Nicely done separate internal fuselage structure.4. One piece outer wing ties have correct cross section and should be easy to install.Lows: Several of the parts are mislabeled on the directions. So far the most notable are the separate wingtips. They would have you put the shorter tips for the upper wing on the mid-wing and vice-versa. And the cowling needs to be modfied to represent the preVerdict: While most of the parts are on the sprue for the preproduction types The cowling will definately need to be modified. Still in all an above average kit.
