The Mosquito was undoubtably one of the all time great aircraft. Originally designed as an unarmed bomber relying on speed to evade interception it evolved into a true multi role aircraft, excelling in each of its variants. This kit is of the bomber/photo recon variant.

Main Parts

There are seven sprues holding the parts moulded in light grey plastic, plus one for the transparencies. The kit shares many of its parts with the Tamiya 1/48 FB Mk. VI kit, the most obvious difference being the nose which is glazed, and the front of the canopy which is pointed rather than flat. All the parts are free from flash and the detail looks up to Tamiya's usual high standards. The relatively few panel lines on the Mosquito are represented with engraved panel lines.

The internal cockpit detail looks good, although I'm sure that some modellers would want to add to it. The bomb bay may be built open. A full set of bombs is included. If building the PR variant parts are included depicting the cameras. Long range wing tanks and a set of under wing rockets are included, but nowhere in the instructions does it show them so some research will be required to check on their use. Two figures are included and look nicely moulded.

Instructions

The instructions are of the usual assembly diagrams and look easy to follow. A separate sheet gives camouflage and decal guides. Paints are given as Tamiya paint numbers.

Decals

Marking are provided for 3 aircraft, from 105, 109, and 540 squadrons, each with a different camouflage scheme. The decals are nicely printed, in perfect register, although a little thick. Seat belts are included on the decal sheet, I'm not a fan if this method of doing seat belts but it is probably better than the moulded on type found in many kits.

Conclusion

This really is a well designed and manufactured kit. There is enough detail to build an impressive aircraft model and is certainly good value for money.
