If you’re a fan of the B-17F and want to do a different nose art to the ones available in the main stream kits, then Zotz Decals have come to the rescue with their “Heavenly Bodies B-17F at war”, available in 1/72 and 1/48 scale. The decal set contains markings for no less than 14 different aircraft and are as follows:
The decals come on 6 sheets in total with one of those being the white backing for some of the “Life Like” nose art decals. Zotz have also included two small correction decal sheets for Knockout Dropper and Two Beauts. The decals (Custom printed by Microscale) are in register and look really thin so they should snuggle down to the model nicely.
The instructions come on seven A4 pages of glossy paper and are printed double-sided in full colour. There also a single sheet of A4 paper with notes on which kits are suitable for each aircraft and additional notes for each aircraft. On the other side is a list of the thirty references that can be used.
Conclusion
Well, what can I say? A very comprehensive sheet of decals for B-17F’s and well worth its value. There is only one set of stencils included and not enough Stars and Bars but you can source these from the kit. The only down side that I can find is that you’ll need to do as the back of the instructions say and “Build more B-17’s”.
Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: A very comprehensive sheet of decals for B-17F’s with outstanding instructions Lows: Only one set of Stencils and you may need to purchase more B-17F modelsVerdict: A pit pricey for 1/72 scale but well worth the value.
