Made to enhance the level of detail of the old but still very good 1:48 scale Revell/Monogram kit, Eduard's B-24J Rear Interior set comes in the usual plastic pouch of the Czech Manufacturer. The set is composed of two PE frets which are protected by two cardboard sheets to prevent them from damage. An A4 size construction notice is included as well. The set is destined to the rear section of the fuselage: the underside ball turret, the two lateral gunner positions and the rear turret.
Fret 1 is composed of 47 parts and fret 2 of 41 parts. The machine guns receive new gun barrels and new details which will make a lot of difference when compared with the original plastic versions. The lateral gunner positions are completely reworked with a new floor, armor plates, ammunition box racks, ammunition belts, ammunition belt rail guides, inner sidewall panels with details and boxes etc... Once assembled, this area looks really impressive as you can see on the accompanying photos taken at the Nürnberg Toy Fair. Some scratchbuilding will be necessary though, because the machine gun mounts aren't provided. Eduard shows how to do them with plastic rods in the instructions.
While the underside ball turret only receives new gun barrels, the external surface of the rear turret will be entirely renewed by the PE parts.
The instructions are printed in black & white on an A4 sheet folded so to constitute a small 4 pages booklet. The construction drawings are easy to follow.
Conclusion
Once fitted inside the fuselage of the old Revell/Monogram B-24J model, Eduard's 1:48 scale B-24J Rear Interior set will simply look amazing through the windows of the lateral gunners. It is nice to see that the Czech manufacturer doing photo etched upgrade sets for older models as these really benefit a lot from the inclusion of the new metal parts. Other references are available for the same variant and we can only hope that the B-24D will also get the full PE treatment in the future.
