by: Nigel Julian [ LAMPIE ]

BarracudaCals have released part 1 of a series of Spitfire MK IX decals.

Four subjects are offered with this release, two of which are actually Mk VII's.

Spitfire HF.VII Serial number MD111.
131 Squadron. RAF

Spitfire HF. VII. Serial number MB820.
124 Squadron RAF. Pilot. F/O Barrit.

Spitfire FR. IX Serial number MK716.
16 Squadron RAF.

Spitfire Mk IXc. Serial number MH883.
412 Squadron RCAF. Pilot George "Buzz" Beurling.

Decals are printed by Cartograf and are clear and sharp with hardly any carrier film visible. On the main sheet the blue of the roundels and fin flashes is too bright, and a correction sheet is enclosed.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AEROSCALE.
SUMMARY
Highs: Clearly printed and a nice choice of schemes.
Lows:
Verdict: A good start to the series. The inclusion of two MK VII's is unusual for a MK IX sheet though.

Hi Nigel, I understand your confusion about the inclusion of Mk VIIs on the sheet, but the title of the sheet is Spitfire MK IX SERIES (as in inclusive of all two stage Merlin Spitfires). I guess its a little confusing, but that was the intent. Part 2 ins in the works now, so don't be surprised if there are other marks thrown in there for variety! Happy modelling!
