Supermarine Spitfire MMk.IX USAAF
Super Scale International's 1:32 scale Supermarine Spitfire MMk.IX USAAF decal sheet comes in a resealable plastic bag. The content is the following:
- One A5 size decal sheet.
- One color A4 instruction sheet with decalling and painting guides for two machines.
These are the two options:
- "Doris June II", EN354, of the 4th Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Group, 1st Lt. Leonard Helton, La Sebala, Tunisia, June 1943.
- "Kay III", EN447 of the 4th Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Group, Lt. Victor Cabas, Spring 1943.
The quality of the decal sheet seems to be very good. The roundels are provided in two pieces (white background circle with yellow surround and separate star) so a little setting solution will be necessary not to loose to much surface detail on the model. Optional L and W letters for the nose are provided in black or white but the instructions tell you that it is not known if they were applied. There are no stencils but those provided in the Tamiya kit are very good so this is not a problem.
The instructions are alright but it would have been nice to have both sides of the aircraft shown. Color references are given in Federal Standard.
Conclusion
If, like me, you think that the Spitfire looks great in Desert Scheme and US markings, then you now have the opportunity to add one to your collection.
