P-47D Thunderbolt 69th, 310th & 311th FS/58th FG
Super Scale International's latest 1:48 scale P-47D Thunderbolt decal sheet comes in a resealable plastic bag. The content is the following:
- One A5 size decal sheet.
- One color A4 instruction sheet with decalling and painting guides for three machines.
Below are the three options:
- P-47D-21-RA s/n 43-25634, Pilot Lt. Art Marston, 311th FS/58th FG, 5th AF.
- P-47D-16-RE s/n 42-75885 "The Pied Piper", pilot Lt. G. Cipipen, 310th FS/58th FG, 5th AF.
- P-47D-15-RA s/n 42-23224 "Sleepy Time gal", pilot Lt. Herbert Emrich, 69th FS/58th FG, Rth AF.
The quality of the decal sheet researched by M. Norris Graser and printed in Italy by Cartograf is really excellent. One only has to take a look at the nose arts to be convinced by the crispness of the printing and the perfect registration. Their background must be painted though but this is rather a good idea in my opinion since matching the colors of decals and paint is not always easy. A complete set of stencils is present as well.
The instructions are well done. Color references are given in Federal Standard. The placement of the stencils is thouroughly explained. Recommended kit is Tamiya's P-47D Thunderbolt kit and though it is the best one available, there is no reason why the decals couldn't be applied on any other 1:48 scale Razorback.
Conclusion
The P-47 is an endless subject and Super Scale International have added one more decal sheet to the long list available for the aircraft. It features three very unusual and colorful marking options and I can highly recommend it to "Jug" lovers.
