F6F-3 exterior
Eduard's F6F-3 exterior Hellcat photo etched set destined to the Hobby Boss kit (see review
HERE) comes in the usual packaging of the Czech manufacturer. It is composed of one photo etched fret and instructions.
The PE fret is composed of 142 parts of which some a really tiny so appropriate tools and glue will be necessary to use them properly on the model. A lot of parts are destined to the gear legs and landing gear bays (internal structure, small maintenance access doors, oleo scissors, etc…) but other items are provided as well for the exterior of the aircraft (new tailwheel cover, new ailerons actuators, new engine cowling flaps including actuators to display them in the opened position, straps for the fuel tank, new bomb fins, etc…). The engine hasn't been forgotten (ignition wires).
As you would expect from Eduard, the quality of this photo etched fret is very good. However, it is surprising that nothing has been included for the wing fold mechanism of the Hobby Boss kit. Since this feature is the highlight of the model, some additional detail would have been very welcome.
The black & white instructions are printed on an A4 sheet folded so to constitute a small 4 pages booklet. They are nicely done and easy to follow. Some plastic will need to be removed from some parts to be replaced by the PE parts and this is well explained in the instructions.
conclusion
This is a good PE set for the Hobby Boss' F6F-3 Hellcat kit. But the absence of extra parts for the wing fold mechanism is a little bit disappointing and makes it a little less interesting.
