Bf109 E Wheels Set

Eduard's 1:32 scale Bf109 E Brassin Wheels set comes in the Manufacturer's traditional packaging of this new range of product. Inside there are several grey and black colored resin pieces, one small sheet of masks and one instruction sheet. It is of course destined to the manufacturer's own serie of kits:

The set is composed of the following items:
- Two resin tires
- Two one piece resin wheel hubs
- Two two pieces resin wheel hubs
- One resin tail wheel
- One resin tail gear leg
- One resin tail gear housing
- One sheet of masks
- One instruction sheet

The quality of the resin pieces are very good. However, I found some air bubbles at the back of the two resin tires. The latter have been cast in an unusual way with the pouring channel located at the centre. I suppose the designers at Eduard have chosen this solution to preserve the engraved detail all over the part. I would have used a more traditional way as it would have eliminated the trapped air bubbles problem. Moreover, the removing of the central pouring block won't be an easy task for sure. To be honest, I'm still puzzled about the way I will do it!

Having said that, filling the air bubbles won't represent a too difficult task and this shouldn't prevent anyone from buying this product. Indeed, the crispness of the castings is superb and the added detail a pure delight for the details freaks. The representation of the manufacturer's name, as well as the 650 X 150 size inscription is a good example of the delicacy achieved by Eduard.

The wheel hubs are provided in two versions. The first is a simple and ready to use one piece variant while the second offers the possibility to build the wheel hub even more realistically, albeit with some additional work, from two pieces. The choice is yours but the castings are equally good in both cases.

The tail gear assembly is composed of one gear leg cast in black resin (more solid?), one tail wheel (also with inscriptions!) and one tail gear housing which has to be glued inside the fuselage. The casting is flawless here.

The instructions are printed in color on a A5 size sheet of paper. They are simple and very clear.

Conclusion

The wheels of the 1:32 scale Eduard Bf 109 E kits are not that bad (see accompanying photo), especially since they have been reworked starting with their E-3 and E-7 kits. However, the Brassin replacement parts are better and more detailed and as such represent an interesting option for sure. Highly recommended for modelers who like to upgrade their models with the best possible pieces.
