The set consists of 13 resin parts, including 3 styles of gunsight and alternative rear bulkheads. The detail throughout is outstanding. The resin parts are direct replacements for the Tamiya originals and all show extra detail over their plastic counterparts. The casting is mostly excellent, but there are one or two tiny bubbles on the review sample, which should only take a moment or two to put right.
The seat is a superb one-piece casting, complete with support frame and moulded on harness. The sidewalls and floor are similarly good, with extra cables and piping, plus quite a number of differences in equipment layout compared with the Tamiya parts.
The small instruction sheet is very clearly illustrated and assembly should be very straightforward - there are just 2 projections inside the Tamiya fuselage to trim before the resin tub can be fitted. Details are given on which gunsight is appropriate for which P-47 production block.
True Details include detailed painting notes but, with the level of detail offered in this kit, it will be well worth tracking down some extra reference pics to try to depict the many placards and stencils throughout the original's cockpit.
Conclusion
I've "only" given 8/10 because of the couple of bubbles I found, but this is really a superb set which definitely improves on the Tamiya kit's already excellent cockpit. With its simple breakdown of parts and minimum work needed to fit it, this would make an ideal set for anyone wanting to try a resin detail set for the first time.
