The figure
Master Details' 1:32 scale RAF and British Commonwealth Fighter Pilot mid to late WW2 figure comes in a resealable bag and is accompanied by two instruction sheets in A5 format of which one is printed in color. Instructions are necessary because the figure is composed of no less than 14 parts, some of them being optional. Below is a listing of them:
- one torso
- four arms
- two legs
- four heads
- one oxygen masks
- one oxygen hose
The figure is multi-pose and you can switch from one position to another simply by replacing the optional arm and head parts. This is a nice idea, especially in such a big scale, and will allow you to adapt the figure to the situation you want to depict. The pilot will always remain in a seated position though. The figure features a standard uniform and the pilot is wearing gloves.
The quality of the castings is excellent and it is to note that the four heads, the oxygen mask and the oxygen hose are made of white metal. I found no air bubbles in my sample. Some mold lines appear here and there and will have to be eliminated but this won't represent to much work.
The four heads, cast in white metal, are very nice and present four configurations:
- without oxygen mask (hanging) and goggles off
- without oxygen mask (hanging) and google on
- with oxygen mask and google off
- with oxygen mask and google on
The heads are the same as the ones of the Pilot in tropical suit of the same manufacturer (see review
here).
The parts breakdown has been so cleverly done and the fit is so good that it is indeed possible to paint the parts separately and assemble the figure afterwards. This will make the detail painting much easier and to my eyes it represents a big plus.
Conclusion
This is another excellent figure from Master Details and I suppose it will fit the new Tamiya Spitfire Mk.XVI perfectly. The quality is excellent and the options provided are very welcomed, as the possibility to paint the parts separately. highly recommended.
