MMD-Squadron have sent a selection of True Details resin accessories to give a taste of what's on offer in their extensive range. Among these are some very useful sets of bombs and "weighted" wheels and, rather than go through them all separately, I'll combine them into a single review and take a look at four sample sets together.

WW2 / Korean War bombs

Set 48503 - 500 lb U.S. G.P. Bomb

Set 48504 - 1000 lb U.S. G.P. Bomb

True Details 1/48 resin sets of US general-purpose bombs of WW2 / Korean War vintage each contain two bombs. The weapons are very neatly cast in two pieces - separate bodies and tails. Clean-up consists simply of opening up the holes in the tail-fins, so assembly should be very quick and simple.

The bombs are supplied in generic packaging which, oddly, includes painting instructions for an ejector seat. No colour notes are included for the bombs themselves and no decals, which is a pity because most photos seem to show stencil marks on the full-sized weapons.

These are useful sets and the bombs will certainly be an improvement over those provided in many older kits.

Weighted Wheels

Set 48107 for the Tamiya Gloster Meteor Mk1

Set 48113 for Roden's series of Gloster Gladiators.

The resin parts are neatly cast and are direct replacements for the kit wheels. Clean-up should be quick and easy once they have been removed from their casting blocks. No modification is needed to the kit undercarriage, so the True Details sets offer a very simple way of depicting "weighted" wheels.

Both sets feature smooth tyres. Some photos of Gladiators show treaded tyres, while Meteors mainwheels seem to have had a range of tyre treads. Tamiya's kit parts have a diamond-tread, while photos of full-sized aircraft also show both ridged and square pattern treads, so it's important to try to check reference photos for the particular subject you're building. Of course, the wheels on a Meteor aren't always the easiest things to see clearly...
