Eduards very useful range of die cut paint masks now includes Revells recent excellent release of the 1/32 scale BAe Hawk T1 jet trainer. With this release you have masks for kit parts:
-Canopy.
-Windscreen.
-Rear pilots blast screen.
-Main and nose wheels.
If like me you have this superb Revell release in your stash or are planning to invest in the next release, which hopefully will not be in bright red plastic this time. Then this release by Eduard is worth considering. It should not be a complicated process attaching them, there are only 16 masks in this set. The two sets of masks for the blast screen had me scratching my head initially, as there is only one blast screen in the cockpit for the rear seater. Then I realised that Eduard had produced masks for both sides of the blast screen, very thoughtful. The masks for the windscreen, canopy and blast screen are split into components to avoid the kinks in the masks trying to blend one piece masks. There are four masks for the canopy, and two each for the windscreen and blast screen. The masks for the wheels are always a very welcome inclusion as it is always difficult to paint wheels without straying into the hub or tyre, no matter how careful we are. The masks for the wheels cover the hubs.
Contents come in a small semi resealable bag, reinforced with stiff cardboard. Comprehensive instructions are included taking you through the stages of applying the pre-cut Kabuki masks. Care will be needed taking the pre-cut masks away from the backing sheet. I always try to take of the excess Kabuki tape so that you can see the masks better. Keep the excess to one side. Some liquid mask or using any excess kabuki tape is needed to fill in any areas that need further masking. A light rub to make sure the masks are secure and then just spray on your paint. Remove the masks when paint is dry and hey presto you should have beautifully sharp edges. A very convenient way of creating a better looking BAe Hawk
Conclusions.
A very convenient, but not cheap way of making the most of this excellent kit. If like you you modeling time is limited then this set of paint masks will be very welcome. Nice one Eduard.
