Pavla have just released a vac formed 1/72 set that supplies transparent plastic parts that directly replace the Revell parts of the B-17G. Parts include two different styles of cockpit glazing, one upper gun turret, three glazing units for the window above radio operators position two different nose glazing and the glazing for the rear gunner.

Contents.

Parts are packed in a small resealable bag.
The single transparent plastic sheet has nine vac formed items and include:
-1 x glazing for the cockpit, the windscreen has the four glazed windscreen [Revell part 68].
-1 x glazing for the cockpit, the windscreen has the two glazed windscreen [Revell part 67].
-1 x upper gun turret [Revell part 174].
-3 x glazing units situated above the radio operators position. [Revell parts 86, 87 and 88].
-2 x nose glazing [Revell parts 81 and 82].
-1 x tail gunner glazing [Revell part 167].

These are all direct replacements for the kit parts. Obviously as these are produced on a single sheet some careful cutting and trimming will be required to fit the kit, but the effort will be worth your while. There is plenty of spare plastic around each item, giving you the opportunity to cut each item out with a pair of sharp scissors. The quality of the transpariences are superb and will be so much better than the kit items. The clarity of the plastic will allow all that lovely internal detail to be seen much more easily. Also the plastic used is thick enough to give the parts some strength after they have been cut out. The framework on the vac formed items are very nicely executed, you will notice a significant difference in quality compared to the kit parts.
The upper gun turret need the slots were the guns traverse clearing. Also one of the glazed noses and one of the sliding windows in the radio operators upper gun position will need a hole drilling for the armament. Where to drill is clearly marked on the plastic. The wind shield for the glazing in the radio operators position which is supplied in the kit is joined to the clear plastic. It will be worth cleaning and polishing the plastic before fitting to gain that extra clarity.
If you have never tried using vac form canopies before these are a good set to try. Just practice cutting out the parts that you wont be using to build up your skill level. Nice one Pavla Models.

Conclussions.

This a great idea by Pavla Models and they will greatly improve the look of your Revell B-17G. They also represent excellent value for money.
