The second instalment of Pheon's decals designed for Eduard's 1:48 Albatros D.V/Va provides a further nine varied schemes to provide fresh inspiration for building this popular kit that is available both from Eduard themselves, and in a current release under the Revell banner.

As with Volume 1 (reviewed HERE), there's a great selection of markings to suit every taste – from the truly spectacular, with flamboyant personal emblems, to a lone fully camouflaged aircraft that almost looks like it belongs in another era. Once again there's a mix of painted and lozenge-finished wings, but note that the lozenge decals for the latter are not included.

Each scheme is described in some detail where possible, with notes on the career of the pilot and supported by references. Rowan makes it clear where some colours are a matter of conjecture, explaining the assumptions made in preparing the decals and giving the modeller everything needed for an informed "best guess".

The decals are once again beautifully custom-printed by Fantasy Printshop. The sample items are thin and glossy, with minimal crystal clear carrier film, and in perfect register.

Overall presentation is excellent, with full-colour profiles and plan views for the painting guide printed on glossy card. These are accompanied by informative instructions. These are partly generic and shared with Volume 1, including a very useful overview of Albatros camouflage and lozenge applications, and a guide to applying the decals. It's worth stating again that it really is important to read these, as they contain a warning that Pheon/Fantasy Printshop sheets can be damaged by some common decal solutions – in fact Rowan advises that the decals should snuggle down perfectly on a glossy surface without resorting to setting solutions at all, so do check before using them.

Conclusion

This is a great set of decals for anyone tackling a quarterscale Albatros. Nine subjects on a single sheet provide a generous selection, and enough to keep an individual modeller busy for months.
