Background

The Revell 1/72 Ju-88 A-4, which was released late last year, has some excellent cockpit detail contained within the kit. This release by Eduard is designed to enhance the kits detailed cockpit parts.

Contents

Inside the semi re sealable packaging is:
-1 x pre coloured self adhesive [SA] photo etched fret.
-1 x non coloured photo etched fret.
-1 x A4 double sided sheet of instructions.

Items contained with this release include:
-numerous flight and radio instrument faces.
-rudder pedals.
-flight control stick detailing.
-seat harnesses.
-numerous levers.
-detailing for the guns and ammunition boxes mounted in the cockpit.
-detail for the engine nacelle.
-instruction sheet.

Pre coloured Parts:The various pre coloured instrument parts do look very good. There are many of them, 37 plus. The pilots instrument panel comprises two parts, one has a strip with the instrument faces printed on it. The other part is the instrument panel itself. The side console to the pilots left comes in for plenty of detailing including an entire panel onto which is attached numerous separate levers. The levers as you can imagine are very small indeed, they also require folding at top to create the thickness of the knob. The radio and navigation equipment have extensive numbers of pre painted parts to attach. The three instruments faces visible in the recess in each engine nacelle are nicely done. You will need to drill a hole2.7mm in diameter into the nacelles before you can fit them.
The seat harnesses and laps straps look very good. The harnesses are one piece, while there are two separate lap straps to each seat.
None coloured parts: includes details for the guns including gun barrel sleeves, which have the cooling slots etched into them. These are flat and need to be carefully rolled into a tube to fit the kits gun barrels. Also there are gun sights, ammunition belts, and detailing parts for the kits ammo boxes. The gun mounts that are fitted to the upper rear gunners window is also reproduced as a PE parts and they look superb. The rudder pedals and framework look very good and should along with the fine looking ammunition belts will be very obvious through the nose glazing. There are a number of PE parts for the ventral gondola floor, again the detail and the variation of surface texture is very good.
Instructions the black line drawings and the instructional symbols guide you through the building process very well. Take your time and study the instructions carefully to make the most of this release.

Conclusions

The Revell 1/72 Ju-88 A-4 has been well received by modelers. The ample amount of clear plastic around the crew positions means there is plenty of opportunity to see the additional parts from Eduard. Some rather tricky folding and bending is required of some of the parts. Eduard have gone quiet some way to help you achieve the level of detail that will take the breath away from your fellow modelers.
SUMMARY
Highs: Will look pretty impressive when these quality parts are fitted in place.
Lows: The number of parts and size will look complex to some.
Verdict: With a bit of patience and logical approach to fitting the parts, you will be rewarded with a stunning cockpit. Highly recommended, but not one for beginners to photo etched parts or the faint hearted
