White metal replacement landing gear legs for the AZ Models kit

by: Tim Hatton [ LITESPEED ]

The AZ Models 1/48 Saab Tunnan received some mixed reviews on it's release. One of the criticisms was the sit of the completed model, a problem with overly long undercarriage legs. Maestro Models have come to the rescue with the release of white metal replacement legs.

Contents:

are contained in two re sealble bags for extra security. Maestro Models supply:
-1 x front undercarriage leg.
-2 x main undercarriage leg.
Guidance notes.
The white metal parts from Maestro Models are replacements for the kit parts, which are said to be too long. Casting quality is pretty good, although there is a seam running on both sides of each of the three legs. The metal is soft so there should be no problem sanding it down. There are no torque links cast onto the legs. These are separate plastic parts contained within the AZ kit. The very slight extra weight of the nose gear will go a little way to shift the centre of gravity towards the front. The white metal legs look and feel pretty bomb proof.
There are no instructions as these are direct replacements for the kit parts. Maestro Models do provide some useful information for those of you that have not used white metal before. As the components are white metal, cyanoacrylate glue [super glue] or epoxy adhesive is required to fit them to the plastic parts. Maestro Models recommend washing the parts to remove any remaining releasing agent.

Conclusions:

The white metal legs look like good replacement for the overly long legs of the AZ kit.
SUMMARY
Highs: Will improve the sit of your finished 1/48 AZ Models Saab Tunnan. They look robust, just like the real thing.
Lows: Price.
Verdict: If you don't fancy chopping down the kits plastic undercarriage legs down to size, then these replacement legs are ideal.
