The book is in A4 format and consists of 64 pages. The artwork on the glossy cardboard sleeve shows two of the subjects covered in the book, a P-40 named "Geronimo" and a Razorback P-47 named "Josephine". All the pages have a nice background artwork, depicting the walls of a hangar. The book is the first of a series, and this one is called "American Indian artwork and emblems & P-47s over the Pacific - The 19th FS on Saipan".

The first section is dedicated to the artworks and is named "Insignia and nose art". A brief history about the use of artworks showing American Indian heads, which is one of the most used artworks on aircrafts, and soon we get into the core of this book: profiles! I'm not familiar with 1/32 aircrafts, but I think the profiles are approximately in this scale. It's surprising to see how many different air forces, also in Europe (including Luftwaffe), used the Indian head artwork during WW2. Among the profiles, several famous and unusual subjects are shown. Along with the high quality drawings, mainly showing one side of the aircrafts, but sometimes providing a view of the upper side, come photos of the real subjects and several interesting historical and technical information showing subtle details such as the differences between the cowlings of the P-47C and D. Also provided are colour views of the artworks themselves.

The second chapter ("Hangar Special"), as stated above, is dedicated to the P-47s belonging to the 19th FS stationed at Saipan. In the introduction, the author says that the study covering this unit has been made possible thanks to the availability of several reports, videos and photos. The unit used to fly the P-47D "Razorback". The aircrafts were painted in the Olive Drab-Neutral Grey scheme, and all featured natural metal engine cowling and vertical stabilizer, both with blue decorations and wingtips. With the same standard described above, the profiles show several different aircrafts, each showing peculiar colour touch-ups, artworks or nicknames.

In conclusion

This book is a very nice addition to any collection and a great source for inspiration. I read Thierry is interested in cooperating with decal manufacturers and I sincerely hope we will see some decal sheets covering these subjects one day (hopefully in 1/72 scale too).
